Apparel - Accessories and Printables Product Developer

This position is a key member of the NHS Apparel Development staff, reporting to the Apparel Department Manager, working closely and cooperatively with Creative, Design, Marketing, Sales, Production and other members of the NHS team. This is a full-time, in-house position. Must live near or be willing to relocate to Santa Cruz, CA.


Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for development for all calendared seasons of Printables design from style guide hand off thru creation for men’s, youth, kids, and infant genders.
  • Responsible for development of Accessories categories including but not limited to socks and towels.
    • Vendor communication
    • Daily communication for style specific development
  • Seasonal communication for main timelines, costing/negotiations, follow thru to hit all calendar dates.
  • Costing negotiations seasonally by vendor while working with Merchandiser to hit target FOB/LDP pricing
  • Maintain consistent records with outside print vendors for all developed style price breaks.
  • Ensure internal line list is up to date for all attributes and vendor details to maintain clean and accurate information in systems.
  • Source and develop trims and embellishments as needed for Printables styles.
  • Review and approve all strike off’s for Printables styles with Graphic Designers and in house MFG.
  • Review and approval all proto samples for Accessories styles with Designers and communicate to vendors.
  • Communicate Development issues with Design team to execute finished product that meets vendor capabilities while achieving desired look from Designers and appropriate target costing.
  • Keep style guide details up to date based on any changes along development cycle.
  • Create seasonal verbiage for all developed style shown in catalogs.
  • Review seasonal catalogs for developed products to ensure correct information is being presented.
  • Create notes for photo samples and sales samples corrections for communication across departments.
  • Develop and track SMU’s as needed for accessory styles.
  • Work with SMU Printables Product Developer to ensure no overlap of product and style guides are up to date and accurate for all aspects of Printables Development.
  • Create new blank body BOM’s seasonally.
  • Understand industry trends to be able to present new print techniques, new blank bodies, and accessory concepts where appropriate.
  • QC incoming product types based on category responsibilities.
  • On time hand off of all calendar date tasks
  • Maintain accurate and organized information.


·       2-3 years’ experience in Apparel Product Development, screen printing development experience a plus.

·       Must be able to understand style guides and prepare technical packages for a diverse range of products overseeing all documentation updates and communication.

·       Should be able to accurately communicate technical product issues in both written and verbal form.

·       Some cost negotiation experience

·       Knowledge of trade regulations, testing protocols, product integrity and production life-cycles

·       Persistent and not be afraid to negotiate with suppliers.

·       Must have timeline/project management experience and be disciplined, organized, and able to multi-task in a group environment.

·       Creative when it comes to solving problems. Be proactive and self-directed.

·       Team player with great attitude

·       Travel in the U.S and overseas may be required.

·       Able to work 40+ hours a week in our Santa Cruz, CA office (no telecommuting)


Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Adobe Illustrator and other word processing applications such as MS Office a must, Outlook and Asana experience a plus.
